Baseball Recap: Burlington Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Burlington had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Iola Mustangs an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Alex Mautz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Mautz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Burlington got a big performance out of Brayzdn Spring, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Brody Garland was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Burlington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Iola only posted an OBP of .269.

Burlington's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Iola, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlington will venture away from home to square off against Wellsville on Tuesday. As for Iola, they will head out to challenge Baldwin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
