Football Game Preview: Central Catholic Buttons vs. St. Pius X Panthers

The Central Catholic Buttons will square off against the St. Pius X Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

On Friday, Central Catholic got the win against Long Creek by a conclusive 41-20. The result was nothing new for the Buttons, who have now won three contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Joseph Carreon had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 41 receiving yards and one TD.

Central Catholic's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Bradley Jones refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Zach Mehdi was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles (2.5 for loss).

Meanwhile, St. Pius X came up short against Antonian Prep on Friday and fell 35-26. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Apaches: they've now lost seven in a row.

Central Catholic will have to keep a close watch on Amir Parks-Brooks and Trey Finney, a pair of players who had a big impact on St. Pius X's prior game. Parks-Brooks picked up 130 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Finney picked up 165 receiving yards and one TD.

Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for St. Pius X, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Central Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Pius X when the teams last played back in November of 2024, sneaking past 36-34. Will the Buttons repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
