Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Columbia County Christian's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Columbia County Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 56-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northumberland Christian Warriors. Columbia County Christian was not able to make up for their defeat to Northumberland Christian from their previous meeting back in February.

Several Columbia County Christian players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Pierce Cughan, who posted 20 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Cughan has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sharyf Conklin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Columbia County Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Columbia County Christian's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3. As for Northumberland Christian, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-4.

Columbia County Christian will take on Meadowbrook Christian in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbia County Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. Northumberland Christian and Belleville Mennonite will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
