Football Recap: Jack Gates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evangelical Christian over Northpoint Christian

Evangelical Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 27-21 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northpoint Christian Trojans. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Evangelical Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jack Gates, who threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Drake Butler was in the mix too, providing Evangelical Christian with two scores.

As for Northpoint Christian, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.6 points over those games.

Justin Henderson had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 207 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. He has become a key player for Northpoint Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Palmer King, who rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Evangelical Christian has already played their next matchup, a 38-6 win against St. Benedict at Auburndale on the 24th. As for Northpoint Christian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lausanne Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Lynx have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games.
