Central State Eight recap September 24, 2013

Sacred Heart-Griffin was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Taylorville. The Cyclones came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.

Lanphier moved up to 233 from 289 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Central State Eight. The Lions climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Urbana 50-0.

Gabe Green put up the best numbers through the air as Sacred Heart-Griffin beat the Tornadoes. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 234 yards and 6 touchdowns.

He was 11-12 with 0 interception.

Kody Wood was the best receiver in the league this week as Jacksonville topped Southeast. Wood racked up 7 receptions for 95 yards.

Justin Herron was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 150 yards as the Crimsons bested the Spartans. Teammate Devante Clark added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.

Robbie Kelly was a passing and rushing force as Rochester defeated Springfield. He completed 20 passes for 270 yards and also ran for 18 yards. Kelly's favorite target this week was Jeremy Bivens, who caught 3 passes for 74 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Green of Ken Leonard's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,279. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Wood. The Jacksonville star has 20 catches for 343 yards.

A big matchup in Central State Eight this week will be when Glenwood takes on Southeast. The Titans are currently in second, while Elbert Kern's team is in fifth.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, the Rockets beat the Senators 35-14,. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
