Basketball Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. Sierra Vista Mountain Lions

The Foothill Falcons will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.

Last Thursday, Foothill faced the Patriots in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Foothill took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. Foothill has not had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Despite their defeat, Foothill saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Shawn Salazar, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Christopher Natale jr, who scored 11 points.

Meanwhile, Sierra Vista waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They breezed by Amplus Academy on the road to the tune of 77-33. Given Sierra Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Archers are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Foothill's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9. As for Sierra Vista, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Foothill strolled past the Mountain Lions in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 69-51. Will Foothill repeat their success, or do the Mountain Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
