Recap: New Iberia Yellowjackets vs. Lafayette Lions
It was a good run, but the New Iberia Yellowjackets unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 35-34 to Lafayette. New Iberia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lafayette apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kentravion Smith, who scored 12 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Otis Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
New Iberia's loss dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Lafayette, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Iberia will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Lafayette Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Louisiana (Lafayette Christian Academy is ranked eighth, while New Iberia is ranked tenth). As for Lafayette, they will head out on the road to face off against Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
