Basketball Recap: Wootton Comes Up Short

Wootton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 57-49 to the Whitman Vikings. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Wootton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Malia Bellamy dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bellamy has scored all season.

Wootton's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Whitman, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Wootton and Whitman could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings. Wootton (ranked 99th) will meet Seneca Valley (ranked 33rd) at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Whitman (ranked 97th) will meet Bethesda-Chevy Chase (ranked 23rd) on Tuesday.
