Basketball Recap: Shyla Pipkin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Red Mesa over Rock Point

After flying high against Dishchii'bikoh on Saturday, Red Mesa came back down to earth. The Red Mesa Redskins came up short against the Rock Point Cougars on Saturday, falling 68-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Redskins have suffered since December 20, 2024.

Red Mesa's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shyla Pipkin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Pipkin has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Jones, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Red Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Red Mesa now has a losing record at 13-14. As for Rock Point, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-3.

As of now, neither Red Mesa nor Rock Point have any future games scheduled.
