Baseball Recap: West Monroe Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Northwood

On Tuesday, West Monroe faced Northwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Monroe Rebels took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwood Falcons. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Zach Simpson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February. Kade Thomas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5-1. As for Northwood, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Monroe will take on Alexandria at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northwood, they will venture away from home to challenge Anacoco at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Anacoco's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
