Softball Recap: Columbia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Branford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia). They came out on top against the Branford Buccaneers by a score of 14-10 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Harleigh Price made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kimber Long was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Luisa Taylor was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Columbia's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Branford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Coming up, Columbia will be playing at home against Fort White at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort White will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Columbia surely won't give up without a fight. As for Branford, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-4 victory against Williston on the 4th.
