Basketball Recap: James Mciver Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Rocky River

It was a Battle of the Birds when East Mecklenburg duked it out withRocky River on Friday. The East Mecklenburg Eagles snuck past the Rocky River Ravens with a 43-39 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 72-47 back in December of 2024.

East Mecklenburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was James Mciver out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Mciver has posted since back in December of 2023. Jordan Buzzard was another key player, putting up five points in addition to 11 boards and four blocks.

East Mecklenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Jayden Ross and Jordan Walton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Ross posted 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Walton had ten points. Another player making a difference was Ronnie Little, who earned six points.

East Mecklenburg's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7. As for Rocky River, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

East Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 78-33 victory against Garinger on the 28th. Rocky River has also already played their next matchup, a 58-56 win against Grimsley on the 25th.
