Baseball Recap: Williamsville East Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Williamsville East dropped their record down to 9-2 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Starpoint Spartans by a score of 3-2. The Flames were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 8-6.

Jaxson Lichner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Williamsville East saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan McKinnon, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Starpoint, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 7, 2024.

On Starpoint's side, NICK NUNZIO was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that NUNZIO has launched this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williamsville East will square off against Clarence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Flames' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Starpoint, they will host Amherst Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
