Recap: Poplarville Hornets vs. Greene County Wildcats

The Poplarville Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They fell 55-47 to Greene County. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Poplarville in their matchups with Greene County: they've now lost four in a row.

Poplarville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiyah Jones, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleah Bester, who scored 11 points.

Greene County was led to victory by Rakhiya Moody and Kam Lawrence. Moody scored seven points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Lawrence dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lawrence has scored all season. ShaNya McLeod was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Poplarville has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. As for Greene County, the victory got them back to even at 14-14.

Poplarville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Greene County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Bay at 4:00 p.m. on February 8th. Bay will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something Greene County surely won't give up without a fight.
