Baseball Recap: Columbus Comes Up Short

Columbus fell victim to Lincoln Northeast and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 2-0. Surprisingly, this marked the Discoverers' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Spencer Shotkoski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

Columbus has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln Northeast, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Columbus beat the Rockets by a score of 2-1 later that day.
