Baseball Game Preview: Simla Cubs vs. Akron Rams

The Simla Cubs are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against the Akron Rams at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Akron took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Simla, who comes in off a win.

Simla is headed out to face Akron after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Simla put the hurt on Peetz with a sharp 12-2 win on Friday.

T.J. Eurich made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Simla got a massive performance out of Wyatt Stanko, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Stanko has posted since back in April of 2024. Tatum Kocerha was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Simla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peetz only posted an OBP of .273.

Meanwhile, Akron had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Flatirons Academy.
