Basketball Recap: Owen Warhorses vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars
The Owen Warhorses's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 66-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Heritage. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), Owen still had to take the loss.
Owen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jack Wesley Burk, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Daxon Mason, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Jace Loven was his usual excellent self, scoring 35 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Mountain Heritage. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Loven has scored all season. Max Gilley was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Owen's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Mountain Heritage, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Madison has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mountain Heritage, they will be playing at home against the Mountaineers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Mitchell is ranked 411th, while the Cougars are ranked 390th).
