Preview: San Luis Sidewinders vs. Browne Bruins
Having just played yesterday, the San Luis Sidewinders will head out on the road to face off against the Browne Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for San Luis and 36 for Browne.
On Wednesday, San Luis came up short against San Pasqual Valley and fell 43-30. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for San Luis in their matchups with San Pasqual Valley: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their defeat, San Luis saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Vanessa Ambriz, who scored nine points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Fernanda Aranda was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Browne suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by North at home and fell 80-22. While losing is never fun, Browne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while North is ranked 120th).
San Luis has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Browne, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight at home.
San Luis came out on top in a nail-biter against Browne when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 31-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Luis since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
