Soccer Game Preview: Staunton vs. Southwestern

The Staunton Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Southwestern Piasa Birds at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southwestern took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Staunton, who comes in off a win.

Staunton will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Thursday, then bounced right back against Pana on Tuesday. The Bulldogs blew past the Panthers 8-1. The result was nothing new for Staunton, who have now won six contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Southwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Carlinville, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, Southwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Carlinville are ranked 166th).

Staunton's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six matchups. As for Southwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-1.
