Basketball Game Preview: Seventy-First Falcons vs. Lumberton Pirates

The Seventy-First Falcons just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Lumberton Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seventy-First is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

On Monday, Seventy-First beat Cape Fear 47-40. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Colts are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lumberton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Purnell Swett 49-28 on Monday. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

Seventy-First better keep an eye on Andrea Brown. She was instrumental in Lumberton's win, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Brown's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Whitley, who posted ten points and five boards.

Lumberton's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points over those games. As for Seventy-First, their record now sits at 17-8.

Seventy-First couldn't quite finish off Lumberton when the teams last played on Tuesday and fell 49-46. Can Seventy-First avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
