Softball Recap: Rivera's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Rivera won the last time they faced Donna and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Raiders were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Redskins. The victory was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Kiley Trevino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anahy Gonzalez-Torres, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ariel Allen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Rivera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Rivera's win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Donna, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15-1 record this season.

Rivera will venture away from home to square off against Lopez at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lobos will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Donna, they will be playing at home against Pace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Redskins are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
