Basketball Recap: Dunbar Comes Up Short

If Dunbar was riding high fresh off their 56-27 takedown of Bonita Springs last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dunbar Tigers had to suffer through a 66-36 loss at the hands of the Ida Baker Bulldogs. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 54-35.

Dunbar's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addision Fuhr, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Fuhr has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Daniya Maycock, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Dunbar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Jocelyn Hernandez-Castro had a dynamite game for Ida Baker, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 steals. The dominant performance gave Hernandez-Castro a new career-high in steals. Kiarah Saldana also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Ida Baker, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13.

Dunbar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-15 defeat against Canterbury on the 17th. As for Ida Baker, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-28 win against Cypress Lake on the 21st.
