Football Recap: South Iredell Vikings vs. Statesville Greyhounds
South Iredell extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They received a blow as they fell 47-29 to the Statesville Greyhounds. The Vikings were not able to make up for their defeat to the Greyhounds from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.
Brody Hunt and Tristan Cowan certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hunt picked up 63 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Cowan threw for 221 yards and three TDs.
As for Statesville, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-2. Considering their offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Statesville found their leader in sophomore Jaikoda Harrington, who rushed for 52 yards and three scores, and also threw for 135 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes. Paul Cauthen Jr made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. South Iredell will face off against North Iredell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will be up against the Raiders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38.38 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Statesville, they will take on Mooresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will need to watch out since the Blue Devils have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games.
