Baseball Game Preview: DeLand Bulldogs vs. University Titans

The DeLand Bulldogs will face off against the University Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

DeLand took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Creekside, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Meanwhile, University was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Atlantic.

Jaiden Palmer made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three contests. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlos Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. University is undefeated when Martinez posts two or more runs, but 9-11-2 otherwise.

University hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atlantic struck out nine times.

DeLand's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-13. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for University, they now have a winning record of 12-11-2.

Everything went DeLand's way against University in their previous meeting last Thursday, as DeLand made off with an 11-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
