Baseball Game Preview: Herron Achaeans vs. Speedway Sparkplugs

The Herron Achaeans will head out to square off against the Speedway Sparkplugs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Herron will be strutting in after a win while Speedway will be coming in after a loss.

Herron's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Indianapolis Washington with a sharp 23-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Achaeans in their matchups with the Continentals: they've now won four in a row.

Abraham Cherry and Richard Morris made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Cherry pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Morris struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Cherry scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Morris scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Cherry, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Colin Nix was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Speedway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Lapel, falling 8-2.

Speedway saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keller Socks, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Herron suffered a grim 23-5 defeat to Speedway in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Achaeans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
