Softball Recap: Baldwin's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

Baldwin fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Baker County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hayden Peebles spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baldwin got a big performance out of Makaila Fry, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Fry's first of the season. Jazmine Ramos-Merced was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

The loss snapped Baldwin's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 10-4 record. As for Baker County, they pushed their record up to 13-2-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

When Baldwin and Baker County next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Indians will try to stop Nease's four-game winning streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Baker County will take on Fort White and their three-game winning streak at 6:30 p.m. on the 9th. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.1, the Indians 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
