Recap: West Philadelphia Speedboys vs. Martin Luther King Cougars
It was a good run, but The West Philadelphia Speedboys unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 34-22 to Martin Luther King. West Philadelphia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Martin Luther King apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
West Philadelphia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dontay Armstrong, who gained 62 total yards and two touchdowns, and Mekhi Bryant who rushed for 101 yards on only 12 carries. Amin Winston got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
West Philadelphia's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Martin Luther King, their victory was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Philadelphia will take on Mastery Charter North - Pickett at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Martin Luther King, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Frankford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Frankford comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
