Softball Game Preview: Clay Panthers vs. South Gallia Rebels

The Clay Panthers will challenge the South Gallia Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Clay's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while South Gallia has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

On Wednesday, Clay didn't have quite enough to beat North Adams and fell 6-5.

Laney Shepherd was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Shepherd wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Elin Shaw, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Shaw has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, South Gallia lost 12-2 to Western on Wednesday.

Clay's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for South Gallia, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Clay took their win against South Gallia in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-1 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
