Baseball Game Preview: Garfield Bulldogs vs. Sumner Spartans

The Garfield Bulldogs will face off against the Sumner Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Garfield has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Garfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Shorewood 3-2. That's two games straight that the Bulldogs have won by just one run.

Garfield got a great performance from Wyatt Bare as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Bare didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Garfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Hudson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hudson also put up a hit, which was his first of the season. Lockie McIver was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Sumner got the win against Auburn on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-2. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.

Garfield now has a winning record of 2-1-1. As for Sumner, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
