Baseball Game Preview: Buffalo Gap Bison vs. Staunton Storm

Buffalo Gap is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Staunton Storm at 5:30 p.m. Buffalo Gap is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Buffalo Gap had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Luray on Friday. Buffalo Gap put the hurt on Luray with a sharp 11-1 win. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bison yet this season.

Cooper Simmons made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Simmons was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Buffalo Gap is 2-1 when Simmons posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dalton Coffey and Brandon Argenbright did most of the damage at the plate: Coffey scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Argenbright scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was Argenbright's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cooper Cline, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Buffalo Gap was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Luray only posted a batting average of .100.

Staunton kicked off their season on the road two weeks ago and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of Alleghany by a score of 7-6. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.

Buffalo Gap's record now sits at 3-4. As for Staunton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Buffalo Gap came out on top in a nail-biter against Staunton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Buffalo Gap have another victory up their sleeve, or will Staunton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
