Softball Recap: Vance Charter Beats Falls Lake for Their Third Straight Win

Vance Charter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Falls Lake Firebirds 8-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Leah Rice made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Puryear, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakota Dickerson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Vance Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Vance Charter's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Falls Lake, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, Vance Charter will be playing at home against Jordan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vance Charter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Jordan's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Falls Lake, they will venture away from home to challenge Vance Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
