Basketball Game Preview: Washington Rams vs. Cortez Colts

Washington is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Cortez is on a eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Washington Rams will welcome the Cortez Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Washington strolled past Copper Canyon with points to spare, taking the game 56-39.

Meanwhile, Cortez made easy work of Desert Sunrise on Friday and carried off a 67-41 win. The Colts have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 26 points or more this season.

Cortez's win came from a few key players Washington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nygel Lindsey, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 boards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassius Henderson, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points.

Cortez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Washington has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Cortez, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.

Washington took a serious blow against Cortez when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 80-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cortez's Ulysses Espinoza, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points and three steals.
