Basketball Recap: Nate Davis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Appling County over Tattnall County

Appling County lost against Tattnall County back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Appling County Pirates fell just short of the Tattnall County Warriors by a score of 62-60. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Warriors are ranked 120th).

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nate Davis, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Shane Gillis was another key player, putting up 16 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Appling County was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Appling County's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Tattnall County, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.

Appling County will challenge Berrien at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tattnall County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 75-34 win against Claxton on the 3rd.
