Softball Game Preview: Carrboro Jaguars vs. Granville Central Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Carrboro Jaguars duke it out with Granville Central Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carrboro has three straight victories, Granville Central has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Carrboro barely beat Granville Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Carrboro was the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Granville Central on Tuesday. Teagan Fichter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Lackland, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Julia DeVries also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Granville Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Carrboro, their record now sits at 5-1.

Granville Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carrboro has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Granville Central, though, as they've been averaging 12.8 hits.
