Football Recap: May River Sharks vs. Airport Eagles
May River had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Airport Eagles 37-8 on Thursday. The Sharks pushed the score to 30-8 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.
May River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Johnson led the charge by rushing for 139 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries, while also catching one score. The Sharks also got a significant boost from Tony Cooper, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to May River's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Devin Ryan and Michael Poole, who racked up four sacks between them.
Coming up, May River will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on West Ashley at 7:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Airport, they will head out on the road to take on Aiken at 7:30 p.m. on the 29th. The matchup will give the Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season.
