Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Eagles vs. Groesbeck Goats

Fairfield has gone 8-2 against Groesbeck recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Fairfield Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Groesbeck Goats at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Fairfield's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Groesbeck has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

On Tuesday, Fairfield was able to grind out a solid win over Elkhart, taking the game 10-5. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Elks: they've now won five in a row.

Haylee Allen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Fairfield let Madelyn Morrison and Evelyn Fultz run wild. Morrison scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Fultz scored a run while going 1-for-3. Fultz also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaylie Ridge, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Groesbeck fell victim to Iowa Park and their airtight pitching crew two weeks ago. They lost 14-0 to the Hawks.

Groesbeck's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Fairfield, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything went Fairfield's way against Groesbeck in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Fairfield made off with a 12-1 victory. Will Fairfield repeat their success, or does Groesbeck have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
