Football Recap: Micai Thompson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Smithson Valley

Brennan lost to Smithson Valley back in September of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Bears walked away with a 30-21 win over the Rangers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Brennan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Micai Thompson, who rushed for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Thompson has posted since back in October of 2024. Cayden Glass was another key passer, throwing for 144 yards and two TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes.

Another reason for the win was Brennan's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Jayden Johnson was the leader with two. Johnas Brewster was another major factor on D, making 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Brennan's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Smithson Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Brennan and Smithson Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bears (ranked 52nd) will meet Sotomayor (ranked 527th) at 7:00 p.m. on the 13th. Meanwhile, Smithson Valley will face off against Madison at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th with a big rank advantage (46 vs. 465).
