Shelley hasn't had much luck against Pocatello recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Russets will take on the Thunder at 4:00 p.m. Shelley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
While Shelley's victory against Skyline wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Russets had just enough and edged out the Grizzlies 3-2 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Russets have posted against the Grizzlies since April 3, 2024.
Macie Winder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaidy Lloyd, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Shay Murdoch was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Pocatello came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Diamondbacks get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Thunder have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Harrington looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Pocatello got a massive performance out of Harley Baca, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave Baca a new career-high. Chelsey Oliver also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Pocatello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Shelley's record now sits at 14-7. As for Pocatello, their record is now 16-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shelley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Pocatello struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shelley might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Pocatello in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Russets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
