Wednesday just wasn't the day for La Jolla Country Day's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 14-0 to Tri-City Christian, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Meanwhile, Classical Academy got the win against St. Joseph Academy on Wednesday by a conclusive 26-6. The Caimans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Milena McConnell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Gezylah Key was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. What's more, she posted four hits, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kalia Gonzalez, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Classical Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
La Jolla Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Classical Academy, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Jolla Country Day hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Jolla Country Day might still be hurting after the 15-7 loss they got from Classical Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Torreys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
