Basketball Recap: Rock Academy Comes Up Short

Rock Academy lost to Classical Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Warriors came up short against the Caimans, falling 58-38. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Caimans since Friday.

Despite the defeat, Rock Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Austin McBride went 6-for-15 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. That was a full 39.5% of the Warriors' points, marking the third time in a row McBride has posted more than a third of the team's points. Andrew Cassata also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Leading Classical Academy to victory were Lawson Schreiner and Drew Davis. Schreiner had 19 points, while Davis scored 17 points. Those 19 points gave Schreiner a new career-high. Tyree Gonzales was another key player, putting up eight points.

Rock Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Classical Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-16.

Rock Academy has already played their next game (against Escondido Adventist Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Classical Academy, they will head out to challenge Escondido Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Caimans will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 63.42 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
