Softball Recap: Newbury Park Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Newbury Park challenged Oaks Christian on Tuesday. The Panthers fell 9-4 to the Lions. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Janessa Gutierrez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Yasmin Topinko was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Newbury Park's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Oaks Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newbury Park will face off against rival Agoura at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Oaks Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Thousand Oaks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
