Volleyball Preview: Wingate Bears vs. Newcomb Skyhawks
Wingate and Newcomb are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2021, but not for long. The Wingate Bears will challenge the Newcomb Skyhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wingate is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Having struggled with 13 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Wingate finally turned things around against Zuni on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Thunderbirds as they made off with a 3-0 victory.
Wingate's not only won, but also showed off some consistency: keeping Zuni between 18 and 21 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Newcomb came up short against Thoreau on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Skyhawks haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Newcomb started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.
Wingate's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
