Softball Recap: Mccollum Has No Trouble Against Southside

McCollum barely beat Southside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. McCollum put the hurt on Southside with a sharp 10-3 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.

RUIZ MADELYNN was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. MADELYNN was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on SORAYA TORRES, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. MARTINEZ LAUREN also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

McCollum's record is now 13-3. As for Southside, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. McCollum will square off against rival South San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (McCollum 3.2, South San Antonio 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Southside is set to face off against their familiar foe Jay at 7:00 p.m. on April 2.
