The Carbondale Area Chargers will head out to square off against the Mountain View Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain View took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Carbondale Area, who comes in off a win.
Carbondale Area is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Forest City on Wednesday. The Chargers walked away with a 7-4 win over the Foresters. The Chargers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Parker Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Xander Keill was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Xander Mackey was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Mountain View fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Montrose on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Meteors by a score of 8-7. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Carbondale Area, Mountain View also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordan Jagger. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Jagger was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ziggy Bradford was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tanner Holtsmaster, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Carbondale Area's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Mountain View, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carbondale Area has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
