Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Widefield Gladiators
The Coronado Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Widefield Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Widefield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Coronado, who comes in off a win.
Coronado posted their closest victory since January 10th on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over Canon City. The win made it back-to-back wins for Coronado.
Realiti Smith was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lyrik Smith, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Widefield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. Their tough 77-51 loss to Palmer might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Widefield in their matchups with Palmer: they've now lost seven in a row.
Coronado has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. As for Widefield, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Coronado strolled past Widefield when the teams last played back in January by a score of 55-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coronado since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
