Soccer Game Preview: Monomoy vs. Nantucket

The Monomoy Sharks will square off against the Nantucket Whalers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monomoy is headed into the matchup having not lost since September 22 and will look to keep things rolling. They walked away with a 3-1 win over Cohasset on Monday.

Tate Laramee and Alex Connell scored all three of Monomoy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nantucket). They put the hurt on Tri-County RVT with a sharp 10-1 victory on Saturday. Given Nantucket's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts soccer rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Tri-County RVT are ranked 287th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nantucket is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those seven contests. As for Monomoy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-4.

Monomoy beat Nantucket 3-1 when the teams last played back in September. Will the Sharks repeat their success, or do the Whalers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
