Basketball Recap: Gillespie Takes a Loss

Gillespie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Carlinville Cavaliers on the road by a 74-55 margin. The Miners were down 54-33 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carlinville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sawyer Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last six games he's played. Tate Duckels was another key player, going 10 for 16 en route to 23 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Gillespie's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Carlinville, their record is now 6-9.

Gillespie has already played their next game (against East Alton-Wood River), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Carlinville will take on Southwestern in a tournament on Wednesday.
