Football Game Recap: Southern Wells Raiders vs. South Adams Starfires

Southern Wells extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-7. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 42-7 to the South Adams Starfires, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Starfires are ranked 89th).

Despite the loss, Southern Wells still got an impressive performance from Trey Slusher, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 133 yards on six of 15 attempts.

As for South Adams, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.57 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.3 in the others.

It was another big night for Will Patterson, who rushed for 87 yards and one score on only nine carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 52 yards.

Southern Wells and South Adams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Raiders will face off against Triton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' defense has only allowed 14.9 points per game this season, so Southern Wells' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for South Adams, they will challenge Madison-Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
