Basketball Recap: Chatham Starts Season with Victory Against Tunstall

Chatham took care of business in their home opener on Monday. They managed a 44-38 win over the Tunstall Trojans. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Trojans are ranked 72nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham was led to victory by Jakiyah Giggetts and Sydney Ward. Giggetts posted 15 points and six boards, while Ward dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Giggetts' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Markayla Mayo, who earned two points and eight assists.

Chatham wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 44-12 victory against Brookville on the 4th. As for Tunstall, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-39 win against Rustburg on the 4th.
