Softball Game Preview: Leon Cougars vs. Shelbyville Dragons

For the second straight game, Leon will face off against Shelbyville. The Cougars will take on the Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Leon heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to Shelbyville. The Cougars were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the five games prior), but the Dragons' pitchers proved too tough.

For Shelbyville's part, Taylor Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Jones was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Shelbyville got a massive performance out of Cadee Harley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Kylie Snell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Shelbyville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Shelbyville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Leon, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-15.
